The Torah scrolls kept in the Holy Ark in the synagogue are very important objects, and it is a mitzvah to decorate and glorify them. The scrolls are covered with a mantle- "Me'il" - made of fine fabrics such as silk or velvet, and are decorated with elaborated embroidery. On top of the Me'il we have a shield called the "Tas", a crown and two Rimonim.
